About The Crohn's Disease Initiative
|
The Crohn's Disease Initiative is a collaborative effort between The Crohn's Disease Initiative. Inc., Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, University of Texas at El Paso, collaborators, CDI members, and sponsors. Organized by Dr. R. Chiodini, its' sole purpose is to bring a resolution to the Crohn's disease - M. paratuberculosis debate and controversy.
For almost 15-years now, the field has failed to provide direct objective evidence to address whether the association between M. paratuberculosis and Crohn's disease is incidental or causal. Continuing to show that M. paratuberculosis can be detected in Crohn's disease patients does not address causality nor does it advance our understanding. Saying the same thing over-and-over again changes nothing, does not add to our understanding, and fails to address the criticisms and deficiencies in the hypothesis.
Because of the failure to address the criticisms and deficiencies of the suggestion(s) that M. paratuberculosis causes some cases of Crohn's disease, The Crohn's Disease Initiative was formed to tackle this problem and controversy in an objective and meaningful research effort. After 25 years, it is time to resolve the controversy and put it to rest.

Research Statement:
After being away from the field for almost 15-years and watching the field lose focus and objectivity, I want to finish what I started 25-years ago and end this lingering controversy. By employing a focused and objective step-by-step series of investigations, I hope to determine if the association of M. paratuberculosis and Crohn's disease is more than simply a mere association and whether or not M. paratuberculsois is the cause of some cases of Crohn's disease.
